“FROG PARKING ONLY, ALL OTHERS WILL BE TOAD”.
It seems that actually this sentence refers to anybody who wants to park around that warning. However, this statement is actually such kind of prohibition for people to not park there anymore. How could it be? Certainly that is the warning for those who persists to park on that wrong place. The only way to warn them is by using that kind of warning. In general, the use of this warning implicitly shows that the writer seems to be angered, although he/she uses funny sentence to express it. That statement looks like the statement “Hanya anjing yang boleh kencing disini” which also warns people about the prohibition to not take piss around that. The use of word “Dog” might sound freaky and rude for a warning in Indonesia. In fact, it shows us that the writer strictly warn those who always take a piss there. It is quite different if we look at the warning above. The writer chooses “Frog” and “Toad” to be a representative of a human who wants to park there and makes an exception using the word “Toad which basically similar to the frog itself. That what makes this sentence looks pretty funny.
Basically, there are two deixis used in that sentence. They are person deixis and place deixis. Place deixis is shown by “Frog parking only” which obviously implies a prohibited area to park a vehicle. Those words is obviously pointing out an area around that warning which naturally means in other words is “NO PARKING HERE” or “DON’T PARK HERE”. It also seems that actually the use of “Frog” itself is indirectly refers to human. In fact, a frog will never read this kind of statement. As we all know the statement warns anyone for never parking their vehicle there. If still there is a person who persists to park there, he/she will be considered as an animal, in this case as a frog and not a human anymore. Therefore it is consider as a deictic. We know that no one wants to be considered as an animal. Therefore, by using a frog to warn, the writer hopes there will be no one parking their vehicle anymore there. To strictly prohibit, the writer adds words "All others will be toad”. Why is it so? Because the writer actually wants to make an intended exception by using or choosing the word “Toad”, an animal which is also just the same species as a frog. Besides, the words “All others” is also consider as a person deixis which implicitly refers to all people as a sequel of the previous words which refers to someone parking there. In conclusion, the statement prohibits everyone to not even think for parking their vehicle in the area around the statement posted, except those people want to be considered as an animal for specifically a frog species.
