The Comparison Among Four Genres of Poetry
A.     Lyric poem
I Felt a Funeral in my Brain
by Emily Dickinson named

I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a
Drum -Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My Mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange
Race Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then –
B.     Dramatic Poem
The Law of the Jungle
By Rudyard Kipling
Wash daily from nose-tip to tail-tip; drink deeply, but never too deep;
And remember the night is for hunting, and forget not the day is for sleep.
The Jackal may follow the Tiger, but, Cub, when thy whiskers are grown,
Remember the Wolf is a Hunter -- go forth and get food of thine own.
Keep peace with the Lords of the Jungle -- the Tiger, the Panther, and Bear.
And trouble not Hathi the Silent, and mock not the Boar in his lair.
When Pack meets with Pack in the Jungle, and neither will go from the trail,
Lie down till the leaders have spoken -- it may be fair words shall prevail.

C.     Narrative Poem
“Auto Wreck”
by Karl Shapiro

Its quick soft silver bell beating, beating,
And down the dark one ruby flare
Pulsing out red light like an artery,
The ambulance at top speed floating down
Past beacons and illuminated clocks
Wings in a heavy curve, dips down,
And brakes speed, entering the crowd.
The doors leap open, emptying light;
Stretchers are laid out, the mangled lifted
And stowed into the little hospital.
Then the bell, breaking the hush, tolls once.
And the ambulance with its terrible cargo
Rocking, slightly rocking, moves away,
As the doors, an afterthought, are closed.
We are deranged, walking among the cops
Who sweep glass and are large and composed.
One is still making notes under the light.
One with a bucket douches ponds of blood
Into the street and gutter.
One hangs lanterns on the wrecks that cling,
Empty husks of locusts, to iron poles.
Our throats were tight as tourniquets,
Our feet were bound with splints, but now,
Like convalescents intimate and gauche,
We speak through sickly smiles and warn
With the stubborn saw of common sense,
The grim joke and the banal resolution.
The traffic moves around with care,
But we remain, touching a wound
That opens to our richest horror.
Already old, the question Who shall die?
Becomes unspoken Who is innocent?
For death in war is done by hands;
Suicide has cause and stillbirth, logic;
And cancer, simple as a flower, blooms.
But this invites the occult mind,
Cancels our physics with a sneer,
And spatters all we knew of denouement
Across the expedient and wicked stones.

''The night''

By Ngoc Nguyen
The night has a certain,
darkly appeal,--a charisma
about it that draws
the wildlife out.

The night's a world of darkness,
a place and time
of shadow and mystery
when lovers congregate.

During the night, the stars come out;
and the moon-glow is bright.
While below, the nocturnal
rhythms increase.

When the darkness arrives,
life takes notice. Nature changes
with the swells of night;--
and it makes us helpless as we feel its power.

The Comparisons
Lyric, Drama, free verse and narrative poem are the four general literary forms into which writing, especially poetry, has traditionally been grouped. Drama is presented on a stage, where actors embody characters; lyric has been loosely defined as any short poem other than drama. While free verse poetry refrains from using a specific pattern of rhyme or meter. And Narrative poem is a poem that tells a story. Those poets express their state of mind.
Lyric poem

Lyric poem is typically express personal or emotional feelings and is traditionally the home of the present tense. They have specific rhyming schemes and are often, but not always, set to music or a beat. The example of lyric poetry is a poem by Emily Dickinson named I Felt a Funeral in my Brain. It describes a person who is going insane, or thinks they are. It is a lyric poem because it gives a description of an event and reflections on it, but does not tell a story.

Dramatic Poetry
Dramatic poetry is written in verse and is meant to be spoken. Its main purpose is to tell a story or describe an event in an interesting and descriptive way. dramatic poetry is a form of writing that expresses emotional feelings. It's a very creative form of art. Poetry that simply expresses emotions is actually lyric poetry. Dramatic poetry involves a narrative poem of a person in a specific situation. It can involve emotions, but has so much more to it.
An example from Rudyard Kipling’s The Law of the Jungle which is addressed to a wolf. In the fact that all of Dickinson’s poetry is highly personal and filled with meaning and sentiment adds to the enjoyment of this renowned poets work. This poem explores the relationship between man and God. This relationship is not comforting but one which causes fear as our immortality is revealed to us. She believes that the slant of light reminds us of our vulnerability and this knowledge is hurtful and depressing.
Upon the first reading of Emily Dickinson's poem's we found them very hard to understand because of her unique style of writing. Eventually though we found ourselves comprehending the general theme of her poems. Seeing death, as the ultimate source of awe, wonder, and endless questions, was life's most fascinating feature to Dickinson. We suggest you read it and compare. In two of this poem is one of them told about relationship between man and God and other told about strength of the wolf and act like animals.
In our opinion "I heard a fly buzz--when I died" is a quiet strange poem. Because to most people death is supposed to be an experience of awe, it is the moment that the soul, departs the body. In this poem the watchers at the bedside wait for the moment when the "King" (whether God or death) "be witnessed" in the room. And the speaker assigns away everything but that which she expects God (her soul) or death (her body) to take.
In Kipling’s poem is clear to us what it is saying. We are all bound by the rules of nature, and we follow these rules and gain success, but if we break the rules of nature. The rules of nature are like a cycle (the girdle of the tree trunk is a circle of nature formed around the trunk of the tree). Every pack of wolves (let's analogize the wolves to humans) is as strong as the weakest member. Basically we need to be all be strong, and if one of us is weak, we all are weak. And also it means people in a group gives each individual the strength of the group and makes them act like animals.
Narrative Poem
This poem has a typical characteristic. It tells a story. That is what makes this poem different sfrom other poems. The poem starts with a description of an ambulance rushing to the scene of a crash, and hurriedly gathering up the victims and rushing them away. The second and third stanzas explore the emotions felt after the car crash from the perspective of a witness.

The author is exploring the random and illogical nature of mortality by contrasting the car crash with other forms of death (war, suicide, stillbirth, cancer) that are more understandable. I select this poem because of the realistic images and how a reader  can  vividly  picture  the accident  as  if he/she was  there  to  see  it.  It’s a morbid poem, but the theme is relevant, since everyone will die some day and no one knows if it will be sudden, like a car crash, or come on slowly like a cancer. However, this is very different poem which has a plot telling the story.

FREE VERSE
When we try to analyze free verse poem, we can classify it at first glance. Because this poem does notice the patterns of poem, there is no rhyme, no alliterations, and no rhythm. No alliterations means there is no the same capitals of words in each stanza. No rhythm means there is no tune and meter such dimeter iambic
Yet, when we closely analyze each stanza of the poem, the poet tells the truth about ‘the night’, the night has a certain, darkly appeal and it is followed with the high imagination and his own view, a charisma about it that draws the wildlife out.
